A simple gift could speak volumes, and if a man never afforded a Lady Gay body lotion for his girlfriend, well… he simply hadn’t measured up to her standards. Lady Gay was not just a lotion—it was a statement, a quiet romance wrapped in a soft, lingering fragrance. Our mothers, aunties, and sisters adored it, drawn to it like bees to honey. That scent… oh, that unforgettable scent. Sweet, sensual, and comforting all at once—you could catch a hint of it from a kilometer away and instantly feel at home. It carried stories, emotions, and a kind of warmth that today’s world seems to have forgotten. In the 1980s, we had a student teacher—Teacher Gudy. That is the only name memory has preserved for me. A proud Mukiga, with her distinct Kiga-accented English, she would walk into class at Ibanda-Kibubura Integrated Primary School, a school surrounded by the green, rolling hills of western Uganda, leaving behind a gentle trail of Lady Gay’s fragrance. Fresh, graceful, unforgettable. She didn’t just teach lessons from books—she left impressions on our hearts. Teacher Gudy, wherever you are, I still remember you. Your sense of taste, your kindness, and the love you showed us. You had a special way of calling the little boys in class “Katoye”—a word we never quite understood, yet somehow felt was filled with affection. On quiet Friday mornings like this, memories come softly knocking. I find myself piecing together those golden childhood days—the laughter, the innocence, the simplicity of it all. Days when happiness wasn’t complicated, and life moved at a gentler pace. Today, many of those we shared those moments with have grown—some are mothers, some grandparents. Others have journeyed far away to new cities and countries in search of greener pastures. And sadly, some have taken their final rest(MSRIP). But the memories remain… vivid, sweet, and everlasting.
