Earthstrong Salute Great King Yellowman 🫡👑🎙 Born: Winston Foster (January 15, 1956) Negril, Jamaica. As a youth he was abandoned and shunned for being an albino, he grew up at the Maxfield Children’s Home and the Catholic orphanage Alpha Boys School in Kingston, which is where he got into music. Influenced by Uroy Yellow began deejaying with the Gemini Sound System. In 1979, he won 2nd place at the well-known Tastee Talent Contest, and soon he had become one of Jamaica’s top live draws, thanks to his humorous stage shows. Yellowman recorded prolifically in the early ‘80s. His first full-length album, Them a Mad Over Me, was recorded for Channel One in 1981 and featured the hit title track and the single “Me Kill Barnie,” an answer to Lone Ranger’s hit “Barnabas Collins.” He also had success with singles like “Operation Eradication” and the infamously slack “Shorties,”. Yellowman hooked up with groundbreaking dancehall producer Henry “Junjo” Lawes and in 1982 they released the LP “Mister Yellowman” internationally on Greensleeves records. Over the next few years he released a slew of hits Many featured fellow late DJ/toaster Fathead, whose specialty was making animal sounds on the Mic (“ribbit” and “oink” etc). In 1983 he released the ZungaZungaZeng Lp and he became one of the first Jamaican Dancehall artist to be signed to a major American Label (CBS Records). In 1986 he was diagnosed with jaw cancer and was given six months to live. After overcoming his second life threatening illness and a short hiatus, He returned with the big remake of “Blueberry Hill” then released several Lps on the Shanachie and Ras label even teaming up with Philip Fatis Burrell on “Yellow Like Cheese” Lp.
