“Superman is a Boy Scout, he doesn’t kill.” Wrong. He GENERALLY doesn’t kill. One time Joker planted b0mbs all over Metropolis, Supes found them. And destroyed them. Then he found out that Batman PURPOSELY let Joker go to Metropolis as a test for Superman. Superman told Bats to keep the Joker in Gotham. Or else.

to address potential “he has no dark backstory” comments about krypton exploding:
yes, but most interpretations of a dark backstory involve its effect in a vacuum. since he was a baby when it happened, it didn’t imprint some profound trauma onto him that motivates his actions. he learns of the fact and it does change him, but his fundamental core character and values are built by the Kents and his life on Earth.

Superman IS boring and I will die on this hill. There’s almost no risk factor in 80% of his encounters, his powers should allow him to do things he can’t and allow him to do this he shouldn’t be able to even with them, and he all in all just a god playing hero. Sure he CAN die and he has, but those are under wither EXTREMELY specific circumstances which he shouldn’t even let happen or when he’s fighting someone actually on his level which SHOULD cause enough collateral damage ti destroy continents.

I saw some panels today of superman, having a bad day because a rich villain got off. he says "people are hurting, and I'm so lucky..." and that's what I like about him. Superman is a guy who got the love he needed and had a good childhood and that's exactly why he's out there. he is compelled to share everything he has.

I cannot tell you how much I adored watching the debate between Lois and Superman in the newest movie. Not even just because of Lois' standpoint (of which I loved, Im a journalism major, and I love watching Lois act like a proper journalist) but because Clark was so GENUINELY passionate about what he was saying. He didn't think about the technicalities, or doing something "the right way" or making himself look good, he thought about what would have happened if he DIDNT do what he did. He is such a GENUINELY good fucking person, and JUST wants to protect, and provide, and save, and he doesn't care how he looks to the media because in the end all that matters is that he protected those who needed to be protected. ... But oh my fucking God, I love Lois' FUCKING points in this debate so FUCKING MUCH, ITS GREAT TO SEE MY GIRL BE A PROPER REPORTER AGAIN, LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOO!

When bad guys are bad for the sake of being bad, they get glazed to all hell, but when good guys are good for the sake of being good, people can be quick to label them as "boring" or "surface level"

it's when they make him a dark broody over powered villain is when Superman is boring. I hate what Injustice did to his character because it all mega chads dude bros want....it's how we got Highlander.

superman is the antithesis to the idea of, "absolute power corrupts absolutely." he's supposed to be a good guy, to show us that people can choose good. that having power is not an excuse for doing terrible things. that's why a good number of his villains are people in power. a tyrant (zod), a billionaire (luthor), a god of evil (darkseid), a conquerer (mongul), etc. it's also why "evil superman" characters don't actually work as well as some people think they do. because Superman's villains are already supposed to represent what someone who had the power of superman and used it for evil would be like. and superman is the counterargument. they don't work because they completely miss the point of superman

You should really look into the solitude he feels as he doesn’t feel like belongs sometimes, one of the greatest plot elements that I love about him.

My hot take is that good is more interesting and complex than evil. The motivation for selfishness is self evident. The motivations for altruism are not so easy to pin down

I always felt like the whole "Superman is boring" mindset is what led us to getting dark or evil Supermans like Injustice. Either as the main reason or a partial reason.

Some writers probably thought the way to make Superman interesting (for those who found him boring) was to have him be an antagonist/obstacle for other characters to overcome. Of course, this doesn't mean everyone who like dark Superman thought he was boring before.

I think Superboy Prime is the perfect “antithesis” to Superman because SBP is like us fans who think he can go max power every time.
