In some parts of Southeast Asia, people believe the dead can return… still wrapped in their burial cloth. The Pocong is one of the most well-known spirits in Indonesian and Malaysian folklore. According to local beliefs, it is the ghost of a person who was buried in a traditional funeral shroud and whose spirit was unable to move on. In these burials, the body is wrapped tightly in white cloth and tied at the head, neck, and feet. Legends say that if the ties are not properly released after burial, the spirit may become trapped and return as a Pocong. Because its legs are bound by the cloth, the Pocong is often described as moving by hopping rather than walking. Many people claim to have seen these white figures at night near graveyards, forests, or abandoned roads. Even though there is no scientific evidence, the legend continues to be one of the most famous paranormal stories in Southeast Asia.
