Dilution makes it so if you have 10 internal links, your authority is divided by 10. So if you have the pages that will make you money from SEO all in this Services subfolder, it's better to get backlinks to this subfolder than it is to your homepage, especially if you are not linking to each one of these high-intent pages from your homepage. If you have many of these high-intent pages, it doesn't make sense to link all of them from your homepage. When you actually think about how backlinks flow throughout your site, you become a lot more efficient at ranking the pages that will actually make you money. If you have pages that rank, these also generate their own authority. You can link these pages to new pages that you want to rank. Your pages that rank and get clicks pass authority to this new page so it ranks too. You can also use a tool like Screaming Frog to look through your pages then see the corresponding crawl depth for each page. Crawl depth is basically how many clicks from the starting page it takes to get to the page you have selected + redirects. There are lots of other variables involved in this.
