saving seems like a good thing until you realise that saving can mean you will be penalised for having those savings. I've worked all my life I have neighbours who have never worked work shy . they have had parties and holidays the new car the big tvs laughed at me for getting up at before 6 am to be at work for 6 after the party they had loud alcohol fuelled didnt end until 4am. when I retire I will get my full state pension but any extra pension will be taxed and I wont be entitled to any extras. my neighbour will also get full state pension never worked a day but he is also going to pick up extras like council tax heating allowance ect ect . his food bills less as they live in the food bank no shame and pub most nights . How's that fair how does that work for people who have worked and saved .

Definitely live within your means. learning to budget your money is the key but don't forget to spoil yourself alittle along the way. I just treated myself and my daughter to a 5* holiday and because im not getting any younger a luxury facial treatment for me (no surgery lol). Tomorrow is never guaranteed and it makes the saving all worth while when you have the money in the bank to do some things you enjoy. xx

I agree with this so much - my husband and I don't have a brand new car, we have a good sized house but we've got friends who have the latest car, phones, tech, massive houses. Yet we spend our money on holidays and making memories with our kids, I don't care about how flash 'stuff' is, you don't get to take it with you! Xx

I agree living within your means budgeting and saving is sensible and definitely needed to feel secure. But sometimes when I read these types of posts I do wonder if the actual reality is that you end up depriving yourself rather than being sensible or careful! Nobody needs items that are not essential to life but you are a long time dead if you have got surplus then treat yourself every now and again, make life easier you only live once and we work hard! £1000s Savings are all well and good but if the government end up with it when your older or you die young and don’t have a retirement ….. just another perspective that’s all!

Yes to all of this! We’re a family of 4 and spend between £70-90 a week on food and toiletries, both are cars are 10 years old but no finance so cheap to run and maintain, have a family gym membership that includes unlimited swimming, NT membership for the majority of our days out, and we very rarely buy clothes for ourselves and buy most of our kids’ clothes from supermarkets or vinted as they grow so fast. We upcycle lots of our furnishings like cushions to reduce waste and save money and still manage to save money for rainy day pot or holidays even with me working part time. There’s so many positives of living within your means

Fantastic. I have followed the same path as you have for a few years now and I can honestly say you will be quids in in the near future. The only problem you will have is people saying things like “Oh it’s OK for you” “Well you started at the right time” and a plethora of excuses why taking control of their finances doesn’t work for them. Congrats and keep it up.

We’re exactly the same. Living within your means and saving money brings a peace that you can’t describe. My husband always says “How have they afforded a Florida holiday? How can she afford a new car?” and I always tell him it’s because people live their whole lives in debt! Constantly just robbing Peter to pay Paul! That’s not how we live.

Love this. Definitely a follow from me. I used to pop into all the usual stores b&m home bargains, the range Asda etc just to buy stuff I didn’t need for a dopamine hit. Now I go in with a list of what I need and straight back out. Those shops with created with us women in mind to do just that. If I was well off I would go for a big fancy car I’d still drive about in our fiesta. Well done queen. 💕
