fun fact before colonialism filipinos did not bat an eye wether you wore feminine or masculine clothing kasi all of our clothes were heavily unisex. fem and masc clothing were just introduced nung na colonized along with.. religion.

The fact is, we used to worship the sun, the moon, nature, and other elements. Tattoos were also considered normal, and some were even seen as symbols of royalty or respect. Homosexual people were accepted because they were often regarded as wise, and it was completely normal. Then religious fanatics changed that, labeling it as demonic because of what their holy books said. They changed so much of our history.

It’s ironic that Catholicism was forced on us by the Spanish, and now the Philippines has a massive Catholic population while Spain itself isn't really a Catholic country anymore.

Women in the pre-colonial era were badass, they led tribes, had their own properties, powerful, respcted, well traveled, multilinguals, diplomats and were definitely way different from what Maria Clara was, exmaples are Dayang Kalangitan of Tondo and Dayang Urduja or Pangasinan.
