@novaramedia: “I feel like I’m living in a nightmare.” Police arrested multiple people under the Terrorism Act at a Palestine Action protest on Thursday even though they did not appear to be expressing support for the proscribed group. Novara Media’s Steven Methven spoke to people who said they were being wrongly detained under section 12, which prohibits showing or inviting support for a terrorist organisation and carries a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison. “I have not breached the law in any way,” one woman said. The Metropolitan police said officers made at least 152 arrests at the protest outside Westminster magistrates court. The majority, 134, were made under section 12. Palestine Action was proscribed as a terrorist organisation last year after its members repeatedly damaged weapons factories that were supplying arms for Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Thousands have been arrested since the ban for holding signs that read: “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.” A challenge to the ban will be heard at the supreme court later this year.

Remember a couple of year ago, when the police would tell us there was nothing they could do about the protests in the roads. But when it comes to anything about Israel…

We need to do an FOI request on how much this nonsense has cost tax payers. Arresting people for holding a sign is utterly ludicrous.
