You don’t need more study hours. You need better study methods. ✅ Know Your Terminology If you don’t know the terminology, you can’t answer the question. Learn your definitions before attempting application and analysis questions. ✅ Study All Your Essays Don’t spot essays. Study all of them. Use mind maps if you struggle to remember large amounts of content. ✅ Mind Maps Mind maps help you organise information and see the links between concepts. Instead of studying pages of notes, you can revise an entire topic on one page. ✅ Active Recall Close your notes and test yourself. If you cannot recall the information without looking, you do not know it yet. ✅ Spaced Repetition Review your work regularly over time instead of cramming everything the night before the exam. ✅ Fishbone Diagrams Use a fishbone diagram to organise causes, effects, advantages, disadvantages and solutions. Example: 🐟 Causes of Market Failures • Externalities • Missing Markets • Imperfect Competition • Lack of Information • Immobility of Factors of Production • Imperfect Distribution of Income and Wealth Add one memory trigger to each cause to help you remember the explanation during the exam. This works because it reduces cognitive overload. Instead of trying to remember pages of notes, your brain only needs to remember one diagram ✅ Feynman Technique Explain the concept in simple language as if you are teaching someone else. If you cannot explain it simply, you do not understand it well enough. ✅ Doodling Use simple sketches, arrows, symbols and diagrams while studying. This keeps you actively engaged with the content and creates visual memory cues that make information easier to remember. ✅ One-Page Method Draw all the graphs for a topic on a single page and write 2–3 key points explaining each graph. This helps you see the relationship between graphs and revise the entire topic quickly. ✅ Method Sheets Create a step-by-step method for graphs, calculations, essays and structured questions. When you know the method, you always know where to start in the exam. The goal isn’t to study harder. The goal is to study smarter. Prelims are coming. Let’s get those distinctions. #Grade12Economics #EconomicsTips #StudyTips #StudySmart #Matric2026
