According to a popular Nepali legend, Kaji Bhim Malla was a powerful and respected figure during the Malla period. He is traditionally remembered for helping Nepal strengthen its trade and relations with Tibet. But after returning from Tibet, Bhim Malla reportedly became the target of jealousy and palace politics. He was accused of wrongdoing and was eventually executed despite his contributions to the country. His wife, Bhuvan Laxmi Malla, was devastated. According to the legend, she later went sati with her husband's body. Before entering the funeral pyre, she is said to have cursed the royal court and Nepal. One traditional version of the curse is: “May those who wish to do good for this country never prosper.” Another traditional account records the curse more ...
