It is only based on imported price not retail price like the democrats say though let me explain we import a shirt that sells for $50 here but it comes here it imported value is $5 so the tariff is on the $5 not the $50 so the price on a 30% tariff is $1 but the democrats want you to think it is $15

well yeah thats the point. tarriffs force companies to either eat the cost or reroute to more local options. the point of Trumps tarifs were exactly that. reroute business away from countries that tarif us at high prices to countries that favor us

It only raises prices if product are made and sold outside of US. It forces sitting companies inside US to outsource their product in US. That is the end goal of tariff, to bring back job inside US. The short term strangle of consumers of US resident is necessary in the long run.

that is only a fraction of the story. The math is that it is forcing manufacturers to build and move manufacturing to the United States. This will cripple the foreign manufacturing market overseas and build the one here in America creating jobs and lowering overall cost to Americans. it is a process. One that should have happened under Reagan.

Both things can be true at the same time. The Chinese government does pay the tariff. The cost of the product does increase, so the company can increase the price.

I’m an importer from China and India. My foreign manufacturing partners were told they are eating the cost. So my price from them went down the exact amount I have to pay when it lands, they have the margin to cover it. This guy sounds like a bad negotiator.
