Money is big reason I want to be a doctor. Growing up I experienced food/water insecurity and saw how severe financial struggles can tear apart a marriage and disrupt a child’s development. While it is not my main/only motivator being a physician would mean my wife and kids would never have to experience the struggles I experienced during my childhood.

Neurosurgeon here. Sometimes saying you’re not going to answer is the correct answer. Maybe interviewer wants to see if you can stand up to ethical principles in the face of pressure to do otherwise…

Redirect like you would a patient asking too personal questions. Something along the lines of, “I believe we all have things we’d prefer to keep private, but knowing when it is and isn’t appropriate to share those often deeply personal details is a skill I’ll find useful in both my private and professional life.”

If you made it to the interview they are fine with your MCAT score as it is. I would take the opportunity to put a bit of humor into the conversation at that point with something like “I drink Monster energy drinks.” Or offbeat like “I collect Pokemon cards.” - that makes you memorable in a fun way & also you get the opportunity to see if the interviewer is also able to hold an interesting conversation outside of work. I was asked in a residency interview when the last time I cried was. I answered honestly - my dog had just died - and it opened up a good conversation (although that question is totally bogus and likely against many rules).

Totally inappropriate question. Imagine if the interviewer ended with them asking "Do you have any final questions for me?" and you asked the same question. They would find it inappropriate.

That question is a reflection of what it would be like to attend that institution and work for those individuals. There is a zero % chance that this is the 1st or last time they have used power and poor boundaries against students. RUN.

My first NP job interview, the physician - who was known for not liking NPs - asked me what was my biggest personality weakness. I was an Ear nurse so I’m ok with harsh questioning and demanding personalities. My answer - I’m not a morning person, at all. Don’t talk to me unless I talk first. He laughed and said ok, I can work with that! And we worked perfectly together!

Point out that is a question that can only be answered dishonestly, since anything you willingly offer up is contradictory.

During one of my interviews my interviewer asked me if I’d interviewed anywhere else. I told him yes and that I’d gotten into that school the day before. He then proceeded to ask me what I planned to do if I didn’t get into med school this year. 😳 Sir, I’ll just go to medical school. Blink blink blink
