With all due respect, please don’t look at the name from only one language or culture. “Anas” is a well-known and honorable name among Muslims, especially because of the great companion Anas ibn Malik (RA). If the word has a different meaning in another language, that doesn’t make the name shameful. We are Muslims, and our names are connected to our language, culture, and religion. What a word means in another language does not define its meaning for us.

I get your point but let’s try to normalise naming kids after someone great especially in the religious context and not think about what other people will think or how they will perceive. I remember having classmates with that name and I never once thought if it was weird.

the way people in coment decided to just skip the whole point is crazy . my son is caled yunis -i chamged to yunus because everyone was asking if he is a girl . we all know how amazing the name yunis is but nit everyone is muslim or somali . so guys relax. think internationally and think about the goodness of your kids

Every language has names that sound unusual in another language that doesn't make those names bad.Anas is a respected Islamic name with a rich history and you don't need to avoid such names

Trust me, I witnessed something in a London school once that shook me to the core. There was a Somali girl, around 14 years old, who had recently arrived at the school. She was a little chubby, and, ironically, her name was Hibo. Some of the pupils started mocking her by calling her “Hippo.” It was, essentially, bullying and it was heartbreaking to witness.

Honestly speaking any traditional name can be butchered and changed to any sound or meaning they want. Bullies are bullies they always have their ways just choose an honourable and good name and be confident and instil that confidence within your child.

so we let that great name go extinct just because other people don't understand it.. will name him and empower that child. even when other kids don't understand he will be proud, they'll understand later. that's how will make these kids proud of their Islam and anything that comes with Islam and not to run away from it
