What you’re describing for facelifts is still general anesthesia, the patient is not reacting to painful stimuli. Depth of anesthesia is not defined by being on a vent or being paralyzed. Technically a colonoscopy is done under GA, pt is breathing on their own but not reacting to stimuli.

If a patient cannot protect their airway on their own, it is general anesthesia. Whether they are intubated and paralyzed or not.

Many general anesthetics don’t involve paralysis. Carefull with your terms. Think of all the GA cases done w/ LMA’s. No paralytic given for those cases.

I love your videos and think you’re great! The definitions are a bit off. The line that’s crossed from the definition of deep sedation to a general anesthetic is with deep sedation there is a purposeful response to a painful stimulus and with a general anesthetic there is not a purposeful response to a painful stimulus. Doesn’t matter if the patient is paralyzed or not. Doesn’t matter if the patient has breathing tube or not. Love it when the surgeon asks for a “sedation” but you know they really want a general anesthetic without an airway. Haha. But I really do love your videos and think you’re great! 🙌

I like that you specified anesthesia being responsible/present in the recovery room 👀 feels very relevant given the influencer who recently passed after a tummy tuck. I believe the anesthesiologist had left the site while she was still in recovery.
