@filmenthusiast: Spider-Man just broke a box office record that's stood since 2019, and it did it without a single IMAX screen to help. Brand New Day pulled in $75 million in Thursday previews, folding in that early Wednesday Prime screening, and that number blows past Avengers: Endgame's $60 million preview record that nobody's touched in seven years. Nolan's got IMAX locked down for The Odyssey right now, so Sony did this on regular premium formats alone. Global opening weekend is tracking north of $800 million. Reviews are backing it up too. 98% audience score, the best of any live action Spider-Man film to date, and 90% certified fresh from critics, just a couple points under No Way Home's 93%. Holland's also said in press that they leaned on Insomniac's game combat for a lot of the finishing moves, which honestly tracks watching the trailers. Odyssey's still holding IMAX. Spidey's still breaking records anyway. Good week for movie theaters.
