& we had it all to ourselves!!!👇 #ColumbiaPartner We have hiked half dome many times, both with the cables up and with the cables down and while it is truly an INCREDIBLE hike, it has become a bit of a zoo the past few years as it has gotten more popular But the one thing about Yosemite is that there are soooo many amazing hikes and ways to escape the crowds if you’re willing to work for it!! The Four Mile Trail looks very unassuming from the teeny tiny sign it has that’s tucked into the trees. It is also NOT four miles which confuses a lot of people… It’s actually 5 miles (10 miles RT) and 3,000 ft elevation gain ONE WAY to get to the main viewpoint (Glacier Point). And then another 4+ miles (8 miles RT) and 2,000 ft elevation gain from there to get to Taft point. Taft point is hands down the BEST view in the park and during the summer months it is relatively easy to get to because you can drive up glacier road and take about a 2.5 mile round trip hike to get to it. HOWEVER when Glacier road is closed, the only way to do the 9+ mile hike there from the valley floor and while it is a pretty large suffer fest, it is soooooo worth it to have the popular spot all to yourself!! We’re both wearing @Columbia Sportswear s Tellurix Titanium Outdry hiking shoes and this is our second 15+ mile day we have put on them! They’re the perfect lightweight, low ankle shoe for big adventures and after MANY miles in them we would both recommend!!! (Suggest size down 1/2 size from your norm). Yosemite has WAY much to explore than just the “popular trails” you see online so if you don’t get the specific permit you’re wanting DON’T BE BUMMED, just go hike something else :) #EngineeredforWhatever #yosemite #yosemitenationalpark #hikingchallenge
