The US has numerous malls that have huge footprints that could be converted to data centers. Instead, companies want to build them near residential neighborhoods. The tech companies are the ones benefiting from these data centers while the public that subsidizes them get few benefits

Interesting analysis! Although what I surmise is that the data centre buildup initiative began a few years before the rise in AI demand. I'm wondering if these datacenters are well equipped to serve AI models, as they need special types of chips, memory, and other types of config.
