During my travels in New Zealand, I discovered one of the most breathtaking filming locations from The Lord of the Rings—Edoras, the capital of Rohan. Nestled in the remote Canterbury region, this stunning location, known in real life as Mount Sunday, is a must-visit for any fan of Middle-earth. ⚔️✨ 📍Mount Sunday Reaching this remote location requires some planning. Mount Sunday is about a 2.5-hour drive from Christchurch. The best way to get there is by car or campervan, as there’s no public transport to this area. The final stretch involves a gravel road and a short hike to reach the top, where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and rivers. Bringing Edoras to life was no easy task for Peter Jackson’s team. Mount Sunday is incredibly isolated, with no existing roads or infrastructure, making it a logistical challenge. The crew had to transport materials and build the entire set from scratch, only to dismantle it after filming.
