🚨 Breaking California News 🗞️ California Energy Commission unanimously approved the nation’s first replacement tire efficiency standards on Aug. 17, 2026. The rules set minimum rolling-resistance and wet-grip requirements for most replacement tires sold for passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks. Phase 1 starts for tires manufactured on or after Jan. 1, 2029. Stricter Phase 2 limits begin in 2033. Officials estimate about 70% of tires currently sold would not meet the full standards. CEC projects nearly $1 billion in annual fuel and electricity savings for drivers and a reduction of about 2 million metric tons of CO2 per year once fully in effect. It estimates modest added costs of roughly $1.50–$6.50 per tire, which it says will be offset by fuel savings. Tire industry groups disagree, arguing real-world price increases will be higher and may outweigh the projected savings. Certain specialty tires (including some competition, large off-road, winter performance, and others) have exemptions. The standards stem from a 2003 state law (AB 844). 🚨 Please 🙏🏽 Follow me @Officialdanielsilvas for more California & Southern California updates 🗞️ 🎥 Reporting Source: KTLA 5 / Chip Yost 🗞️ #californianews #TireRules #CaliforniaDrivers #FuelEfficiency #southerncalifornia 📍 Legal Disclaimer and Notice 📍 All materials in this post are shared strictly for news reporting, criticism, commentary, educational, scholarship, teaching, research, and awareness-raising purposes under the fair use provisions of Section 107 of the Copyright Act of 1976 (17 U.S.C. § 107).
