I think Naim’s dad would have 100% been the supportive parent—I also think he struggled to put up with her fanaticism.

I’ve seen people say this and i’ve also seen people say his dad killed himself. I like both theories and i feel like they could both be true

arlene seemed VERYYYYY aware if you consider every scene where she interacted with naim after the ritual is all i’m gonna say 👀👀 this is such a cool angle!

Her story is very cryptic so it’s hard to tell what she means but I had kinda taken the “something awful coming for him” was implying that he killed himself and that he had depression. But if she was referring to an entity that really does change so much. I do keep thinking about what Arlene does know about the entity and even that the deliverance healer knows and what the pastor knows etc. do they actually understand that the entity does kill them or when the people they curse end up dead do they think it’s unrelated. So could she believe that he did have an entity and she is the one who got him cursed but at the same time did also kill himself. Cuz when she talks about Hunter dying she doesn’t seem to think that the entity killed him but that it was some homophobic people in the town that did it. Either way, I love this conversation and the questions it raises. I didn’t think about this angle before.

or maybe naim’s dad suffered from *external* homophobia, considering the entity curse is a metaphor for internalized (if i’m not wrong) homophobia. maybe what killed him was hate and not self hatred, so arlene thought it was best for naim to fear so he didn’t express himself fully and be a target of it the same way his dad was. idk if it makes sense but it’s my take

If this is actually what happened she just won the “worse wife” award to go alongside her “worse mother”

I think both parents could’ve had an entity honestly. If they both had each other they’re both surviving and pleasing their communities and basically became each others prison wardens. When he died she had to move because she knew being alone was certain death

in this case i'd think his dad was bi and was attracted to his wife, but might have had a wondering eye. looking up p*rn, but not cheating. in christian circle p*rn is being villianized a lot.

Or his dad was a police officer and she always feared he would die on the job, so much that she raised a fearful son and then her fear for her husbands death came true.
