I’m talking lots of wild elk, hidden waterfall hikes, beautiful swimming holes, peaceful creek floats, spectacular mountain viewpoints, miles of unpaved forest roads and some of the most remote dispersed campsites in the state. I feel most people don’t even realize just how far off-the-beaten-path you can really get in Pennsylvania … which is why I ABSOLUTELY love using onX Offroad maps! We used @onX Offroad to explore deeper into the area and find everything from forest roads and river access points to hidden gems and wild camping spots we never would have discovered otherwise. [partner with onX Offroad] One of my favorite features is the Dispersed Camping Layer, which helps show where dispersed camping is allowed along motorized roads and trails. You can also view useful details like road type, access and difficulty, which is HUGE when you’re heading miles down an unfamiliar forest road. And this campsite?! Nearly 10 miles into the forest, surrounded by nothing but trees, wildlife and the sounds of nature. It was easily one of the most peaceful places I’ve ever camped in Pennsylvania! 🏕️ ✨ When exploring and camping in remote places like this, please always follow Leave No Trace principles: pack out everything you bring in, properly dispose of waste, respect wildlife and leave the area exactly as you found it so these beautiful places stay wild for everyone.
