omg guys i’m dutch and live in the UK but i grew up in the US and english is my first language (alongside dutch) - when i first met this irish guy whose now my best mate he used dumb down english because he didnt know how good my english was. we are both white… has nothing to do with race IMO. it’s actually out of politeness, although i was also offended

The people working in the shop had accents and so putting things into simpler terms or even talking with a slight accent to mimic their pronunciation makes it much easier for them to understand you. In the UK there’s a lot of foreign business so people have adjusted to this. It makes them understand you much better. I don’t know how Americans are saying this is crazy or insulting
