Some context on this song & Adela's background for you, Paul & Daisy (& anyone else interested). Adela's family are Slovakian & Adela moved to LA at 18 (circa 2021) to train with Hybe x Geffen's joint venture label to compete in Dream Academy - the survival show that created Katseye. she was in Hybe x Geffen's training & development programme for two years & was sent home in the first round of the survival show because of fan voting & 'solo popstar' star quality - the execs said that could not see her in a group, because she was made to be a solo artist. Adela has said she was inspired to write Ain't in LA about all the cool women who are not from LA (such as her mother, who's father (adela's grandfather) would sneak the posters of American pop stars, such as Madonna, into the communist USSR satellite state, Czechoslovakia (Slovakia was not established as its own country until after the fall of the USSR in 1993) from working in German mines. As a satellite state, the USSR & secret police, KGB (another Adela song title) had influence over the culture & arts - American music posters were strictly prohibited because they were considered distracting from the communist cause. There's a photo on Adela's second instagram account of her mother in her family home in Czechoslovakia with the pop posters on her bedroom wall behind her, with Adela as a baby beside her mother on the bed. Adela considers all the women who have big dreams, like herself and her mother, who once felt confined to not living in proximity to Hollywood. "The baddest bitches ain't in LA."
