🦞 Things are changing on the crawfish farm. Farms across the state are starting to drain their ponds, just like we are right now. That is normal for this time of year. But some farms are still producing, and as we move deeper into summer, we also start relying more on wild-caught crawfish out of the Atchafalaya Basin. So what has changed? The biggest change is that from here on out, we will only have Field Run crawfish available. But since crawfish are no longer being graded into separate sizes, that means these Field Run batches can include a mix of standard Field Run, Select-sized crawfish, and even some Jumbo-sized crawfish. That is actually a pretty good thing if you like variety. Field Run has always been our most popular option, and now these summer batches may give you a little bit of everything in one order. What else? Purged crawfish are no longer available for the season, so make sure you wash your crawfish when they arrive and before they go into the pot. And wild-caught crawfish are their own experience too. They come out of natural Louisiana water systems instead of man-made ponds, and a lot of longtime crawfish eaters like them for that late-season, old-school Louisiana feel. As usual, we cannot predict the exact end of crawfish season. Our goal is always to keep shipping live crawfish as long as we can, but you know how this industry goes. Things change every week. So if you’re trying to squeeze in a few summer crawfish boils, now is the time. We don’t recommend waiting. We ship them live overnight to your door.
