Hoe goud de vijand van Wall Street werd... Aan het einde van de Tweede Wereldoorlog werden we via de beroemde conferentie in Bretton Woods in het Amerikaanse dollarsysteem gelokt. De afspraak was destijds helder. De dollar nam de rol van goud over, maar Europa mocht altijd dollars inruilen tegen goud. Dat ging een tijdje goed. In de jaren '60 kon Nederland zo een mooie goudvoorraad opbouwen, maar Amerika raakte daardoor steeds meer van haar eigen goud kwijt. Het breekpunt? 1971. Er werd besloten om de dollar definitief los te koppelen van goud. Vanaf dat moment werd goud de absolute vijand van het dollarsysteem en deden bankiers er alles aan om de rol van goud te marginaliseren. Waarom is dit belangrijk om te weten? Omdat geldsystemen volledig draaien op vertrouwen. Historisch gezien heeft al het fiatgeld (valuta waarvan de waarde niet gedekt wordt door fysieke goederen zoals goud of zilver) uiteindelijk zijn waarde verloren door inflatie, schulden en mismanagement. Uiteindelijk gingen ze allemaal stuk. Zorg dat je snapt hoe onze monetaire geschiedenis in elkaar steekt, zodat je snapt wat er vandaag de dag gebeurt.
