I'm glad this wasn't told to Sylvester Stallone, Oliver Stone, George Lucas, and a really long list. If you have a story inside you and you need it out, it's the right story regardless of how much you're going to make. Dawn of the Dead was a huge movie that had no budget and had to be shot at night when the stores were closed.

As an old school filmmaker, I think what he probably meant was, everyone is always looking for the magic formula. The secret. When in reality, it’s always been the script. 99% of scripts are weak af. If you focus on getting the script right, it will be noticed. Because they’re rare. And not everyone wants to make their own movie. Some people just want to write. And when a well written script hits the street, it gets noticed fast. I know things are different today. But that is a truth that remains.
