i’d also like to add on that most people on this planet aren’t even great people and would probably compromise the same way the celebrities did.

We can project this onto fame but I’ve seen this in schools, restaurants, retail. Our culture sees narcissism and evil as a form of genius. These ppl are ambitious just unprincipled.

A really cool point too is that Diaz was bluffing, she admits as much at the end of the show and it further shows that she relied on BoJack’s cowardice

are you trying to tell me the capitalism rewards antisocial/destructive behaviors in order to succeed?

capitalism rewards psychopathic behaviour. most people want to be in the 'in group' and are happy to put atrosicites to the side as long as they're close to someone with high status

Power corrupts 😭 we don’t make the worst people evil but evilness is born out of power

Plenty of regular people are evil, they just don’t get publicity for it

Their proximity to the highest class I think plays a major role, and the system of fame and class reward those personalities too. Solid video as always

that's capitalism for you. hollywood is just the most obvious because they are public people, but everyone who thrives and get very rich in this system does not have values

certain people are already “bad” without the money and you don’t know them. you get a bunch of money and now your able to get away with it. this time people “know” you and they give you deniability

i agree broadly but it's more nuanced than that. people are biased towards negativity, "drama" and allegations, so the media scrapes whatever it can find and puts it under a microscope. "mark ruffalo continues being a pretty ok person" doesnt make headlines

Selection bias. You have to have a certain level of narcissism to want fame so ofc narcissists are going to be overly represented in that group of people

This is why I actually love the influencer era. Yes, there are a lot of awful people who are influencers. But also for basically the first time in history, technology allows people who are relatively well adjusted and kind to build an independent platform to make money from their skills and not have to make those industry compromises.

Just hit me that this also applies to youtubers. Explains why so many creators I watched when I was younger became creeps and right-wingers 😓
