I’ll say this because I went to cosmo school for a bit, you don’t need 40vol developer. A lot of people make that mistake and it’ll snap that hair off faster than any branch on a tree during a hurricane. It’s probably too late but 40 vol is EXTREMELY damaging to the chemical bonds in the hair. If you wanna wear that wig again, don’t be surprised if it’s dry and brittle. In the future, use a lower developer, preferably a 20vol. I know people place an emphasis on wanting the process to be fast but when you’re bleaching, you’re already changing the bonds in the hair. The stronger the developer, the faster the damage and the more harmful it is. You also shouldn’t mix bleach in a metal bowl or use metal with it as it alters the chemical property the bleach itself. At the end of the day, LOW AND SLOW. It may take 45 minutes longer but that bleach is processing that hair from the moment you apply it. So as you move through the sections, it doesn’t stop. You risk over processing the back of the hair while applying it to the top. The timer starts when you apply it, not after you’re done. With 40 vol, you better be watching that hair like a hawk. If this is good quality hair, it might be okay. But in the future, low and slow. And also, people will tell you to use protein on bleached hair… it doesn’t work. It’ll reinforce the brittleness. You’ve opened the cuticle with bleach. For maintenance, don’t overdo the protein. Focus on products with moisturizing and light binding properties (L’Oréal acidic line is great). ❤️
