Typically, if you start smelling “sewer gas”, it’s time to get your septic tank pumped. In TN-@$350+. If it’s been 4 years or more (depending on # of people, etc.) time to get it pumped.

So I learned the hard way that wax rings are only good for about 7 years (according to the plumber who came to rescue me from the flooding situation) so I put a note on my Google calendar for 7 years out to replace it.
