Guys you have to remember, in the comics hulk is the only being in the universe that can’t be altered by something like Dr Strange’s magic. The hulk remembered Peter, he remembered the boy who has sacrificed everything and fought down to the bone for everything he cares for and no one remembers him, only the famous mask that lives in the public eye. The hulk remembered and we see hulks humanity just as we see him have for banner.

I think when you look at Peter’s situation. He’s been alone for four years and I think that that type of isolation and depression. I can imagine any glimpse of hope that he could get MJ and Ned back the delusion takes over. And that’s why he thought her reading the paper would bring her memory back.
