@drjoedamiani: 🔥 Headaches that start at the base of your neck and wrap around your head? One of the most common causes is cervicogenic headaches, where pain is driven by the joints and muscles of the upper neck. Here's what's really happening... ⚡ The suboccipital muscles sit at the base of your skull and surround nerves that carry sensation from the back of the head. When these muscles become tight, they can contribute to headache symptoms. ⚡ The levator scapulae attaches from your upper neck to your shoulder blade. Poor posture or shoulder dysfunction can overload this muscle, increasing tension in the upper neck. ⚡ If your upper back becomes stiff, your neck has to compensate by moving more, placing even greater stress on these sensitive structures. So what does this mean for treatment? ❌ DON'T rely only on massage or headache relief strategies if the pain keeps returning. ✅ STEP 1: Alternate stretching and strengthening the suboccipital muscles (AS SHOWN IN VIDEO). This superset helps improve mobility while building the strength needed to support your head. ✅ STEP 2: Restore thoracic spine mobility with extension exercises over a ball to reduce the workload on your upper neck. ✅ STEP 3: Integrate your neck, shoulders, and upper back with rowing and rotational movements to improve the way they work together during everyday activities. The goal with this is to restore mobility, strength, and movement throughout the entire neck-shoulder-thoracic spine system so the headache is less likely to come back. #CervicogenicHeadache #Headache #NeckPain #PhysicalTherapy #Mobility

Love your videos, I’ve followed you for ages 🙌 One thing I’d add is that if symptoms persist despite months of physio, injections and medication, it’s worth considering a peripheral nerve cause like occipital neuralgia or neurogenic TOS. I had both, and after years of conservative treatment and pain management I needed nerve decompression surgery. Peripheral nerve surgery is an incredibly niche subspecialty, with only a few dozen surgeons worldwide focused on these conditions. PLUS nerves issues rarely show up in scans, so getting the right diagnosis is half the battle. And recognising when symptoms don’t fit the usual pattern is often the biggest challenge. Then finding the right specialist can be the next hurdle. I really hope more clinicians become aware of these conditions and know when to refer on, because it took me 20+ specialist appointments and years of pain, meds, physio, acupuncture, injections etc etc before I got the right diagnosis. So however you help your patients, god bless you for know how nerves and muscles relate because so many specialists do not!

Thank you I have C4 and C5 deteriorating. I also have arthritis in my neck, so the base of skull down the muscles and everything into my shoulders. I do have a massage lady and she says they are so tight all the way up to the front of my chest hopefully these exercises will help relieve them. I have horrible neck, pain daily and daily headaches. I also am getting vertigo from my neck. I just want to have a normal life for once and not be dizzy or have headaches all the time or feeling my neck hurting 24 seven the pain will get so bad that I do throw up.
