@forrestunfiltered: Japan KICKS The Can On Yen Carry Trade🚨US Treasury To Intervene?! 🕵️‍♂️ July 31st, 2026 🗞️ So the Bank of Japan just announced they’re holding rates steady like the Fed did this week... and now reports are saying the US Treasury just told banks it may intervene in the Japanese yen market. This is getting really spicy, because Thursday night, Japan stepped in to kick the can on the yen carry trade unwind by buying yen directly to defend their currency. Why would they do that? Japan’s debt-to-GDP is over 230% — the worst of any developed economy in history — and rate hikes make servicing that debt mountain more expensive. They literally cannot hike hard without breaking something. The yen has lost roughly half its value since 2020 and just hit a 40-year low against the dollar. 💣 Which makes the better question — why is Washington “helping?” When Japan props up the yen, they need dollars to do it. And those dollars come from selling US Treasuries. Japan holds $1.2 TRILLION of them. Every time Japan defends its currency, it’s quietly dumping American debt into the market. Washington isn’t helping out of kindness... they're protecting their own debt market. If Japan can’t hike rates without breaking their debt, and can’t hold without breaking their currency — what is the actual exit here?
