my husband just pushed away all the symptoms and results of his illness. He just refused to see what was happening. It was horrendous. My eyes were only opened about a year after his death.I was so furious with him, but I realise today that he couldn't control it.I have made peace with him now, also for my own wellbeing.

I come from a family of alcohol abusers, was even married to one. I was heading down that path myself, but I quit October 2020, and really looked at myself as to why I surrounded myself with people who had AUD. I told my cousin I quit drinking, best decision ever. she also wanted to quit but was scared if she would suffer from withdrawals (I did not, I was abusing it, not addicted). I told her if you are concerned about withdrawals, maybe you should stop drinking, maybe speak with a Dr about concerns and what can be done. she still drinks, but there's a concern of withdrawal, maybe there is a problem. I was lucky for myself not to go through it.

did you know that sometimes the sign is when they try to "overcompensate" with different behaviors as to keep up with social events to "hide" their addiction, sometimes their actions come across as "normal" when in fact they are declining.

Great info for concerned loved ones and hopeful wake-up call to the ones who suffer.
