I love reading Emma M. Lion books after reading heavier or darker books as palette cleansers! They are so charming and grab my imagination straight away. I listened to The Calamity Club this month (read 13 books) and I absolutely loved it! Definitely recommend listening to this. X

I finally read The Reformatory by Tananarive Due and Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson and loved them both. Also read Catch-22 for the first time and hated it! I do agree that you should give Under the Banner of Heaven a try. For me it was his best book.

ML Wang originally a YA author, she has a few YA books she removed some from print connected to Sword of Kaigen. Yes these books are very much written in YA formula and not really deep in themes and very simplified to the audience. It’s a bit annoying how she handles the reader if it’s an adult book. You are not wrong w your opinion. (That’s why it’s so popular, very easy to read and get the message, just like Hunger Games and such..)

I have been reading Wilson’s Iliad since September 2024.😳 It’s very dense. The best thing I read in July was Trash! by Simon Paré-Poupart and can’t recommend it enough.
