Oil-based paint takes a long time to dry, but if you leave your brushes poorly cleaned for a few days, they’ll harden and become nearly impossible to restore. To prevent this from happening: After use, wash the brushes thoroughly in solvent, rinse off the solvent with soap, and then coat the brushes with Vaseline. This will create an extra layer of protection, and your brushes will remain in excellent condition⭐️

I have a big ol bottle of walnut oil that works just as well as my linseed oil. I love how you can really just do whatever with your paints lmao

TIME TRAVELER :
Vaseline is a non-drying petroleum product that will never harden, meaning paint mixed with it will remain wet, gummy, and unstable, eventually ruining the painting.

Alternatively, you can leave brushes soaking in linseed oil up to the bristles, not up to the ferrule, and achieve the same results without introducing a problematic new medium…

Yall it’s to keep your brushes from becoming stiff overtime. It’s not for the painting itself!!! 🗣️🗣️🗣️

Art conservator here. Best to use an oil to clean brushes than a petroleum. Remaining petroleum on the brush will mix into your paint and cause the oil to dry uneven and separate over time!

Guys we know linseed oil is the technical better option, that’s not the point of the video, the point is that you can also do this instead of buying linseed oil

No need to reinvent the wheel, Rembrandt would leave his brushes in linseed oil. At the risk of having a trace amount of non drying petroleum in your paint, is it worth it?
