Age 52 , June 29,2025 rushed to er after two days excruciating pain couldn’t stand walk sit without being in pain ER took a CT scan on way back to ER doctor said ambulance on its way to get you. You’re going to another hospital for emergency surgery !! I have a ruptured diverticulitis. Next hospital they say should be 5 hr procedure 8.5 hrs later I wake up 35 cm cut down the center of my abdomin and a colostomy bag on my side. Doc says they took 12” large intestine temp colostomy. The rupture was worse when they got inside the clean up of sepsis took longer. 6 months later after numerous testing and colonoscopies they give the green light for reversal. Jan72026 reversal happens they remove additional 10” of smaller intestine and appendix due to sepsis damage and my age. Now 7 months later no flare ups of pain or discomfort lite bloating after eating occasionally but all in all doing good free of any types of C words thankfully

Mine was blamed on IBS for a drcade even though I knew it was worse than that. At 48 I went to the doc and told constipated. Ended up in ER next day. Couldnt even sip water. First time I was dx acute darvaticulitis with perforation. I was very infected and hospitalized narrowly escaping a bag.. but had to come back weeks later to have 8 inches of colon removed. Now I still suffer with issues. It took me a year to eat normally after surgery. Also my surgery took a long time. Hours too get through adhesions before he could do the resection. Said I was a complete mess inside and had it been a few years earlier he wouldnt have been able to do my surgery.They told me if i waited one more day I wouldnt be here likely.

I’m still fighting 😔 I’ve had it for decades and mange till this day. I was going to have the surgery about a year ago and for done reason they never got back with me. I don’t know if that was a sign not to have it after all. Please let me know if you do decide to have it.

First flare 3 weeks ago. Went to ER got some antibiotics and pain pills. No talk about what to eat or not to eat going through this flare. I did some research and put myself on a clear liquid diet with really bland foods and started to feel a lot better started to incorporate more protein feeling like I was on the right track and then I got another flare. So now I’m back on the liquid diet plain food, soft foods no fiber no dairy no red meat, no gluten, etc. etc. I’ve lost about 8 pounds. Brand new to this whole situation contacted Julia Loggins. The gut specialist. Have read a lot of studies watched a lot of TikTok‘s still trying to find my way through it all. I don’t wanna have to have any of my colon removed. It’s just so confusing. A lot of the information you get is contradiction to the other information that I get gastroenterologist says one thing natural path say another. There’s no way to know what to do. Kind of developing a fear of eating anything normal again.

Diagnosed in 2016 when I had colonoscopy at 46 which they perforated my bowel ,hole healed without surgery then constant flaring had sigmoid removed as had abcess and everything was stuck to bowel in 2023 .2 years later got a few divicular on right side now and constant infections

that sounds serious, my first flare was at 56, I've had several sine, two this year, one in January and one in July, lasted two weeks

I had to have emergency surgery in Tunisia nearly 2 years ago, because my bowel perforated whilst on holiday. Didn't know that it could happen. Was in hospital for 10 days and flew home after another 4 days. Got stoma for rest of my life.
