The thing is. The Roos generally do hear you. It’s just when they do their instinct is to run directly away from the source. Usually that means down the road you’re driving. And unlike deer they jump. Which is how you end up with a roo in your front seat after crashing through your window finally destination style. Trust me. The last thing you want is an angry kangaroo as your front seat passenger.

There is a stretch of road near Canberra that is installing a similar thing on the little reflector sticks at the side of the road. They get activated by the headlights and make the sounds to scare Kangas away. Operates like a sonic fence. If it works it will be rolled out to all the popular kangaroo spots (there’s a lot of them).

they have had roo whistle thing you can put on your car for ages but they are gimmicks and make no difference. the only thing to protect your car is a bullbar

As an Australian we have roo whistles that you mount on your car for this. Down side is that they make birds swoop your car.

We have these cool “fences” now they’re just little poles with a light and a sound that is triggered by a sensor when a car comes, the first trial was on a road I used to live near and now we have them being put on a few roads in Victoria

There are noise scarers for kangaroos that have been on the market for decades. I had a neighbour who firmly believed in them. We worked at the same place and over 5 years they wrecked 3 cars hitting roos and I didn't hit one. Roos get stirred up by the noises and start moving, increasing the likelihood of hitting one, whereas they were all standing still when I went past. 🤷🏻‍♂️

We've had a shoo-roo attached to the grill of our car for 20yrs. Haven't hit a kangaroo in those 20yrs.
