Huh… so mutually assured destruction doesn’t act as a deterrent? If only there was a modern day epic about an unconventional war fighter who frequently used stealth tactics, has a convoluted family history, takes place over the course of decades in both the lead up and aftermath of a major global conflict, was sorta weird about women characters in the story, has a bunch of ridiculous and/or animal themed titles/nicknames, and that literally ends exactly where it began but with questionable authorial intent that could communicate that message or at least has been since… I dunno, call it 1987 or so? That would be so cool.

Literally use this and the Eris/Judgement of Paris with a few other stories before teaching the Iliad and have students debate who is truly at fault for the Trojan War. It is highly entertaining to have a bunch of teenagers argue over 3000 year old beef 😂😂😂

It was honestly genius. A random pull would decide who Helen married and no one could go to war or protest the choice. And if she was ever kidnapped or taken by anyone else everyone else who had sworn the oath would go to war until she had been rescued. This is also why so many Greeks went to war against Troy, because half of their kings had taken this oath.
