a tough pill I had to swallow in my early 20s. like maybe being abrasive and weird isn't interesting or cool and is in fact just purposefully ostracizing myself for what? aura? mystique?? I could list off cool underground music and films, I could talk about my diy fashion, but did I travel? did I make connections with people? did I create fun memories? no I spent my time in my room alone being a loser lmao.

When I was 16-ish, I had an extremely humbling experience when a popular girl stuck up a conversation with me about things she thought I might be interested in: going to concerts, being in mosh pits, etc. Ever since then I’ve tried to keep a very open mind about people like that because I felt so stupid for being so close-minded to think we’d have nothing in common.

I think as I got older I realized that “normal” and “weird” are legitimately labels you put on yourself. That resentment of “normal” ironically enough makes your opinions and outlooks frighteningly bland because “weird” people in this context define themselves by the scope of that vitriol. I am not just niche or normal, the true end point of this is becoming a kaleidoscope of different experiences and growth opportunities instead of pigeonholing yourself into being “weird” or normal, I am both weird and normal and I love everyone and no one. That’s my end point coming from being “weird” to normal to me.

I 100% disagree? Everyone who is widely outside the social norm who I've ever met is either very interesting or intelligent lol. What 'normal' person stays on your mind? What deep, profound conversations do you remember with 'boring' people 5 years after? Bc I don't remember any of that. I do remember the ones who r brave enough to go against conformity. weird take.

The reason you find in ur words, random ppl u find at the gas station, is because they are different to you. And things are interesting because they are different to you and ur experiences

totally crap take from most people on here. everybody has something to say, whether they are socially accepted or not. it's more about what you believe is important (social norms or other outside beliefs) to listen to. that says more about you as a person than people as a whole. for this creator specifically, i think it has to do with an overcorrection (as someone else on here said). knowing that insiders do have things to talk about is an important realization, but saying they're the only important or interesting conversations puts down and pushes away outsiders, which is what you might be subconsciously doing. next time look inward before blaming whole groups of people
