@annikaunmasked: What would dating feel like if you stopped trying to pass the test—and started asking whether the experience actually felt good to you? For many autistic women, dating can become a performance. You monitor your facial expressions, tone, when to ask a question, what to wear, and whether you are following rules no one clearly explained. If you grew up isolated or unsure what being liked felt like, intense attention can be easy to mistake for care. Being wanted is not the same as being understood, respected, or safe. Realizing your dating life was built around performing can be scary. But it also gives you the chance to choose differently. Unmasking in dating might mean: Telling your date you are autistic. Choosing a predictable walk instead of a loud restaurant. Wearing clothes that feel comfortable instead of what looks “right.” Regulating your body instead of rehearsing the perfect personality. Directly asking for the communication and accommodations you need. Accommodations do not make a date less romantic. They allow someone to meet you—not the version of you built to survive being evaluated. You do not owe anyone only the cute, convenient parts of your autism. You are allowed to have overwhelm, meltdowns, sensory limits, communication needs, and a need for predictability. That includes sexual intimacy. Your needs do not disappear because someone finds you attractive. Anyone invited into your body should care about making it feel safe for you to live inside it. Dating should not test how convincingly you can perform “normal.” You are allowed to ask: Do I feel safe? Do I feel respected? Can I communicate honestly? Do I like who I am around this person? You deserve to date as your fully autistic self—not only the version that is easiest for someone else. Context note: This is Annika-first content—a window into one autistic and ADHD life, not a definition of autism or ADHD. I am white, relatively low support needs, and not physically disabled. My perspective is not universal, and what works for me may not work for you. Please take what resonates and make room for experiences different from mine. #annikaunmasked #autism #latediagnosedautistic #dating #unmasking

For me my advice is just hang along with other autistic ppl so u feel understood ,that’s what i do and NEVER EVER again am I being friends even with a adhd person (even they heavily misunderstand me)(and if they don’t have autism too then I don’t want it)
