The ancient people did do everything they could to seal away the Regis. I can imagine they came up with a very convoluted way of releasing them. And I’d have to guess no one back then knew Brail and if they could read it then they’d probably deserved to control the Regis. Also (fan theory) I think the Regis are blind as well. And I can see the ancients thinking that only a blind person could control the Regis, so they made the secret way of setting them free in brail cuz a seeing person doesn’t know or would normally know brail, and if they could follow the instructions while blind then they definitely deserve to control the Regis if they catch them.
