Be real. How much time have you spent researching it… OR… ignoring it? 😅 Many autistic adults say they knew before they ‘knew.’ Research shows late-identified autistic people often spend significant time reflecting, reading, and comparing traits, something neurotypical people don’t typically do (Lewis, 2016; Kapp et al., 2013). Oh and P.S. 20–50% of people with ADHD are also autistic (Leitner, 2014). Link for free ADHD vs Autism goodness is in my bio! Being autistic isn’t something that’s wrong with you. It’s not shameful, broken, or something to fix. You don’t need a thousand dollars or a professional label to start recognising your truth. If you’re wondering, I’m here to help you explore it—gently, honestly, and with no gatekeeping. You’re allowed to know yourself. 💛 🧠 As always, what I share is based on my experience as an autistic autism assessor and speech pathologist, the lived experiences of the autistic community, and what I’ve seen across 8 years of autism assessments. These insights reflect common themes I’ve observed in 'clinical' settings, assessment conversations, and client storytelling. It may not apply to everyone, and research is still catching up on a lot of this! While this content is not intended as clinical advice, it draws on my lived and professional experience to make space for shared understanding and further discussion. I’d love to see more research in this space, and I’m always open to chatting with or supporting researchers – especially autistic researchers – who feel called to explore and build on these insights. There’s so much more to discover together!
