The fruit was never identified. Scripture simply calls it the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. 2. The fruit itself was not described as poisonous or inherently evil. The issue was disobeying God's direct command. 3. Adam also ate the fruit. Genesis 3:6 explicitly says Eve gave some to Adam, and he ate it. Here's where the story gets deeper. There were two especially significant trees mentioned in the garden: The Tree of Life; Genesis 2:9 The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil; Genesis 2:9, 17 God permitted Adam and Eve to eat from the trees of the garden except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The deeper question isn't necessarily what fruit Eve ate, but why God placed a forbidden tree in the garden in the first place. That leads into a fascinating biblical discussion about free will, obedience, knowledge, temptation, and what actually changed in humanity after Adam and Eve ate. And there's another interesting detail: Genesis never explicitly says the serpent lied when he told Eve their eyes would be opened. Genesis 3:7 says their eyes were opened. The deception was more subtle than simply making a completely false statement. That distinction is worth studying.
