🌸 MAY BLOSSOM 🌸 I don't know about you guys, but Hawthorn blossom is my favourite of the spring blossoms. The delicate white petals grace the landscape and dot over the new, verdant grass, while they cover the trees like fluffy clouds. They also smell divine, a delicate sweet scent that carries on the morning breeze. Hawthorn is a famous tree in herbalism and mythology. Nicknamed the fairy tree in the British Isles as the fairies are said to live amongst the winding roots. Hawthorn trees famously guard the enternances to fairy dwellings, and even today it is viewed as terrible bad luck to cut one down. Hawthorn trees were often planted around homes to bring protection and good luck to a household, while the blossoms were often used during the Celtic fertility festival of Beltane. Hawthorn blossom was used in many of the ancient Beltane (or May Day) fertility rites and would be associated with the feminine half of fertility. This association with love and fertility could have come from its historical use as a powerful remedy for the heart, helping to regulate blood pressure, improve circulation. ease angina and more.
