@hijrah2lombok: With Independence Day coming up, I keep thinking more and more about how people in Lombok and Indonesia are walking blindly into a new form of colonialism. So much of the foreign investment coming in is not about helping local people. It is about cheap land, cheap labour and making as much profit as possible. People come here, pay locals pennies, take advantage of the low costs, buy up land and build businesses, but give very little back to the communities around them. They call it investment, but when the locals do not benefit, wages stay low and all the real money leaves the island, what is it really? Indonesia fought for independence, but now many people are slowly losing control of their own land and future without even realising it. #lombok #kuta #indonesia🇮🇩
