christinecarter696 :
bless you faith. I was with my husband on a mattress on the floor in the bone marrow transplant unit of Hammersmith hospital. My husband was 26 when he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia. we had a one year old baby,we had only been married for 4 years, and so happy when we had our precious daughter, then bang,my husband had pneumonia, and after bloods and bone marrow biopsy, was diagnosed with AML,and our lives were turned upside down,as he was admitted to hospital immediately. After they finally lay got on top of the pneumonia, 4 gruelling brutal courses of chemotherapy began. He maybe got a long weekend of 3 or 4 days at home before the next course of treatment began. Then it was time for the transplant. He got around 6 weeks to build up his fitness, and try and regain some lost weight, then it was time for admission to transplant unit.luckily they encouraged a partner to stay with the patient, which I did. Then the chemotherapy and total body radiation began,,before his transplant, then every single day we would ask what his blood results were hanging on to see if the bone marrow had taken, then 5 weeks after this his neutrophils shown it had taken, then after another week we were allowed home, with back to clinic twice a week,or sooner if he felt unwell. At the time you can't see a life witnphout these appointments and worry etc.but faith,I'm pleased to say. we have just celebraour 41st wedding anniversary, and,I'm pleased to say my husband is 36 years post transplant. There have been ups and down and a lot of worry along the way,but it gets easier with time, and we live evpery day to the full, and are so thankfull his transplant was a success,we don't take anything for granted.I am truly praying you will be a success and be 36 years post transplant yourself faith ,I really mean that, then many more years after that.folllowing your journey and wish you the very best of succeed then good health so you can get back to living your life, best of luck Xx
