This feature turned out a lot more chaotic than we thought it would…😆🔨💥 But we’re not mad about it, because it has turned out to be one of the best social features of the game so far! Originally we added a hammer to the game to allow players to break down debris and piles of trash to salvage crafting materials from. That is until everyone realized they could also bonk other players and NPCs with the hammer! So naturally, hammer fights happened. And when there’s hundreds of players altogether, sometimes war breaks out 💥😩 Not to worry though! Bonking others with hammers doesn’t actually feel violent. Instead, it’s become a fun and silly way of greeting each other and socializing, especially as we’re still in the process of building more social features into the game. To add to the silliness, our amazing SFX designer Nigel also added a squeaky toy sound whenever you bonk someone! Have we accidentally created the world’s first PVP squeaky hammer fight? 🫣 This is definitely one of those game development moments when a feature naturally evolves into something even better than planned. Most footage from this video is from our Alpha playtests last month, so a lot of features and systems are still a work in progress.
