The Warsaw Uprising was the largest battle fought during World War II by an underground organization with occupation troops. The insurgents fought in it against regular German formations, without heavy weapons, planes, guns and tanks. Its outbreak was determined by political considerations, not the military situation. It was the most important action of the Home Army. The fighting, scheduled for a few days, lasted 63 days. The uprising, although it did not achieve either military or political goals, was a phenomenon on the scale of occupied Europe.
