August 2010 will always be burned into my brain. I turned 16 that year. My parents had just gotten divorced. My mom and I procured stacks of DVDs from the local rental shop. We marathoned for hours and then sat outside in the pitch black to watch the stars and meteor showers. I can still feel the grass beneath my bare feet; can still smell the sweet summer air. I now live 2700 miles away and haven’t seen my mom in two years. I miss her.
