Yesterday marked 36 years since the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law. A landmark moment that helped make our world more accessible. But accessibility doesn’t end with ramps, elevators, or automatic doors. If a child breaks their arm, insurance will cover a cast because it’s considered necessary to help them regain what they lost. But if a child gets cancer, loses their leg, or is born with a disability, why isn’t restoring their mobility held to that same standard? A prosthetic or any disability equipment isn’t a luxury. It’s the tool that gives someone their independence back. Everyone deserves the opportunity to move, regardless of where they live or what insurance plan they have. That’s what needs to change.
